Fable is a literary genre. A fable is a succinct fictional story, in prose or verse, that features animals, mythical creatures, plants, inanimate objects or forces of nature which are anthropomorphized (given human qualities such as verbal communication), and that illustrates or leads to an interpretation of a moral lesson (a "moral"), which may at the end be added explicitly in a pithy maxim.

                                                           The Freedom of Ants

Ants are very small animals and often got the oppression by the animals which are greater than them. One of the animals that colonize the ants was grasshoppers. Every day they ordered the ants to find food and collect it. When the food was collected, then a locust took the food and put it in the nest. Every day the ants were given the job and had to work without stopping.

Many ants had died because of the exhaustion at work and that condition always continued. In the ants’ colony, there were two ants which were very brave and always plotted a rebellion. The two ants named Riandi and Anggara. They invited others to subvert the power possessed by the locusts. However, no ant dared to unite and overthrew the power of locusts. Most ants thought that the condition was a destiny and a willing of God which should be received.

Riandi and Anggara never gave up and kept trying to get a lot of members in order to destroy the colony owned by the locusts. One day, the king’s son died because of running the food out. Each food was given entirely to the locust, so the young king died by starvation. This happening realized the ants that they had to fight and led their own nation.

Anggara Riandi and serve as the leader of the rebellion. Ant Riandi is very expert in making weapons while Anggara is an expert in creating ant war strategy. Several weeks later, Riandi has managed to make hundreds of weapons without being noticed by the locusts. Meanwhile, Anggara and all ants have agreed that they will attack the headquarters of the grasshopper when the evening. Before the army ants supplied by arms, they soon moved to the headquarters of locusts through existing tunnels underground.

When they arrived, Anggara immediately gave orders for the ants were divided into 10 groups and dispersed to every corner. They then came out of the tunnel through the holes dug. After all the soldiers out of the tunnel, then they fired weapons into the bodies of each grasshopper. In less than ten seconds, many locusts are dying due to exposure to the toxins produced by these weapons. The attack carried out continuously for one night, and the next day, the ants have won the fight. They returned home with a sense of joy because it had been free from colonization by locusts. Meanwhile, Riandi and Anggara appointed as the new king. Ants lived happily and peacefully because of their brave.

How the Philippines was made story

Many thousands of years ago, a man and his wife lived in the Philippines, they were called Angngalo and Angngarab.

One morning, they went to
gather some shellfish. Inside one, they found a pearl. It was an unusual yellow colour and very large.

Angngalo gave it to Angngarab. “Oh!” she said, “I can find many more pearls than you!”

Soon they were quarrelling and shouting at each other. They ran along the seashore looking for shellfish. Before, they had a big pile in front of them. They pulled open the shells and looked in them for pearls.

“I’ve go more pearls than you!” shouted Angngalo.

“No, you haven’t!” answered Angngarab. “Anyway, my pearls are bigger than yours!”

Soon, they were fighting. They threw the shells and pearls at each other. (That is why there are so many shells and pearls in the Philippines) They rolled on the ground and stamped their feet.

There was aloud “Boom!” and “Crack!”. The mountains and hills began to split. The water in the rivers and lakes flooded the land.

They still continued fighting. Suddenly, there was a great storm, with thunder lighting. The land broke into several parts. Luzon was in the north, the Visayan Islands were in the middle, and Mindanao in the south.

Because of this, there are now over seven thousand islands in the Philippines.

Folk tale is a type of traditional story that tries to explain or understand the world

BATARA KALA

One day Batara Wisnu (god, the protector) distributed the tirta amerta sari or the dringk of the gods. Anyone who drank from ti would never die. Batar kala wanted to have some, too, so he tried the cheat by talking the from of a god. Batara Surya (the sun god) and Batari Chandra (the moon goddess), however, knew of this trick and told Batara Wisnu about it. When Batara kala's turn came to receive the drink, Batara Wisnu shot him from a distance with his famous weapon, the cakra and it cut his head off. Some of the drink, however, spilled over Batara kala's head, and this made his head live forever. From then on Batara kala has continued to live without his body.

Batara Kala was very angry with Batara Surya and Batari Chandra and tried to eat them, but the god and goddes escaped. Batara Kala got angrier and from that time on he has never stopped chasing, them.

Batara Wisnu wanted to protect the god and the goddess and ordered the peole on earth to make a lot of noise whenever there is an eclipse. The noise would help Batara Surya and Batari Chandra to escape from Batara kala's throat.

The Three Little Pigs

Once upon a time there were three little pigs, who left their mummy and daddy to see the world.    All summer long, they roamed through the woods and over the plains, playing games and having fun. None were happier than the three little pigs, and they easily made friends with everyone. Wherever they went, they were given a warm welcome, but as summer drew to a close, they realized that folk were drifting back to their usual jobs, and preparing for winter. Autumn came and it began to rain. The three little pigs started to feel they needed a real home. Sadly they knew that the fun was over now and they must set to work like the others, or they'd be left in the cold and rain, with no roof over their heads. They talked about what to do, but each decided for himself. The laziest little pig said he'd build a straw hut.    "It will only take a day,' he said. The others disagreed.    "It's too fragile," they said disapprovingly, but he refused to listen. Not quite so lazy, the second little pig went in search of planks of seasoned wood.    "Clunk! Clunk! Clunk!" It took him two days to nail them together. But the third little pig did not like the wooden house.    "That's not the way to build a house!" he said. "It takes time, patience and hard work to build a house that is strong enough to stand up to wind, rain, and snow, and most of all, protect us from the wolf!"    The days went by, and the wisest little pig's house took shape, brick by brick. From time to time, his brothers visited him, saying with a chuckle.    "Quick! Light the fire!" With his long legs thrust down the chimney, the wolf was not sure if he should slide down the black hole. It wouldn't be easy to get in, but the sound of the little pigs' voices below only made him feel hungrier.    The flames licked his hairy coat and his tail became a flaring torch.    "Never again! Never again will I go down a chimney" he squealed, as he tried to put out the flames in his tail. Then he ran away as fast as he could.     The three happy little pigs, dancing round and round the yard, began to sing. "Tra-la-la! Tra-la-la! The wicked black wolf will never come back...!"    From that terrible day on, the wisest little pig's brothers set to work with a will. In less than no time, up went the two new brick houses. The wolf did return once to roam in the neighborhood, but when he caught sight of three chimneys, he remembered the terrible pain of a burnt tail, and he left for good.    Now safe and happy, the wisest little pig called to his brothers. "No more work! Come on, let's go and play!

LAKE TOBA

Once upon a time there was a prosperous village in a far away island called Sumatra. In northern part of the island, lived a farmer whose name was Toba. He lived alone in a hut by a small forest. He worked on his farmland to grow rice and vegetables that he sells to local market. Once day he wanted to catch some fish so he went to a river and fished there. He was very surprised when he got a big fish. The fish was as big as human being. Soon he went home and put the fish in his kitchen. He planned to cook the fish for his dinner that night. When he got to his house that afternoon he took a bath. Then as he walked into his bedroom after taking a bath Toba was very shocked. Do you want to know what happened? There stood in his living room a very beautiful girl. The girl greeted him nicely. For a moment Toba was speechless. When he could control his emotion he asked her.
‘Who are you? What’s your nae? Why suddenly you are here in my house?’ ‘Pardon me if I surprised you Mr. Toba, but you took me here. I was the fish that you caught in the river. Now that I become a human being again, I would like to thank you and I will be your servant to express my thankfulness’
 ‘Were you the fish?’
‘Yes, I was the fish. Look at your kitchen’.
Toba immediately rushed to his kitchen and the fish was nowhere to be seen. He saw some gold coins instead. ‘Whose coins are these? Why there are some coins here?’
‘Those coins are mine. As I changed into human being my scales changed into gold coins’
‘Ok you can live here and work for me. Your room is over there’
‘Thank you very much Mr. Toba’
 Since that day the beautiful girl lived in Toba’s house. Since she was very beautiful Toba fell in love with her and not long after that they got married. The girl married to Toba on one condition that he would never tell anybody about her past. Toba agreed to the condition. Several months later Toba’s wife delivered to a baby boy. Their son was healthy. Soon he grew up into a handsome boy. Toba named him Samosir. Unfortunately Samosir was a lazy boy. He did not want to work at all. When his father worked hard in his rice field and farm, Samosir just slept. When he was awake he talked a lot and he ate a lot. Toba was very disappointed with his son’s nature. He hoped that one day Samosir would change into a diligent boy. Day in and day out but Samosir never changed. Toba used to go to his farm and rice field early in the morning. Then at midday his wife would bring him food. They used to eat lunch at their farm. As he was a teenager Toba and his wife tried to change his behavior. They ordered Samosir to bring food for his father for lunch while her mother stayed at home to do household chores. But Samosir never did his duty well. He always woke up very late. He woke up after midday. Then one day his mother forced him to bring the food.

Short story is a “short piece of fiction aiming at unity of characterization, theme and effect.

Example :

Love Comes from A Friendship

I had never felt a first love even when I was studying at the University. I do not know why it happened, maybe because I had too much to learn when in Senior in High School so I’d never find a love that truly memorable. When the initial study at the university, the love did not come because I was busy with a variety of activities on campus and was eager to pursue high score at the class. I was also not interested in girls around me or had a curiosity to know a woman.

At the beginning of university entrance, there was actually a girl who looked to have interest in me. She started to give a short message essentially that wanted to know me more. He continued to greet me through the short message. Oddly, she did not mention her real name and only mentions Initials. I was used to respond to a text message without knowing the identity of the person sending. Several times I talked to her about a few things through the short message. However, I had a sense of boredom with the situation and was eager to find out her real name.

I do not like the little people who continue to conceal the identity and so curious to know. One time, I got to know her because I called her by phone. I was not far from her, and she realized that I was on the phone. She was very shy and did not want to say hello again to me via text message on mobile phone.

After that happening, I no longer found things related to love and I did not have interest about love. My friends say that I had changed and got to know a woman. They even made a fun of me by saying that I did not have the ability to pick up a woman. But, I did not care about anything they say. For me, a love comes in a beautiful way and should not be imposed.

One time, I found the first love and a true love of my life. The woman who became my first love was my a classmate but we had not known each other very well. When in the class, we only just greeted each other and did not have any interest. Though we were in a class almost every day and engaged in the same lesson. There was a story that is so unique and our friends did not believe when we were in love because we had been in the same class within 2 years.

The love was present when we are sitting close together in a place and there was one of our friends started teasing each other as if we liked. At first, we felt ashamed because it continued teasing. However, from that teasing, I kept getting a sense of confusion. I kept thinking about her every day even in every single time in my life.

Then, I began to know her through a text message that I sent. When the first short message sent, I got a response and I kept talking to her through a text message on mobile phone. I found hard to sleep and kept thinking about her. Finally, I decided to express love to her, and she received with a very happy feeling. Up to now, I became her life companion and want to continue to be close until death separates us.

Adventure is an exciting experience, an act that is bold and risky, challenging journey, an unusual, something dangerous, something great, something surprising, and unexpected, life change or a new thing that does not happen every day .

Tom Sawyer
